What Medical Advice do I Need?

You should get from your physician the latest medical advice on inoculations and malaria prevention before coming to Uganda. Malaria risk exists all year round. Immunization against yellow fever, polio and typhoid are usually recommended, but please consult your physician prior to travel.

Is it safe to work in Uganda?

We will do everything we can to ensure you are safe during your time around. Uganda is one of the safest countries in Africa. We ensure you are placed in safe environment and you will be very well looked after while volunteering in Uganda. The Ugandan people are very warm and friendly towards visitors.

Do you cater for groups or other specialist volunteers such as professionals?

Yes we do. All of our programs are suitable for any type of volunteer, even if traveling as a group. We tailor programs for groups and individuals seeking to volunteer in specialized programs that may not be part of our standard projects. So whether you are a group, a researcher or a student seeking to volunteer in a specific area, we will design a program for you. You just have to get in touch with us so we can arrange your program.

Can I do more than one placement?

Yes you can. Working in multiple locations can give you a chance to experience different aspects of your program such as an urban elective and rural elective experience and thus enhance your overall volunteer experience.

What happens when we first arrive?

We meet you at the airport and take you directly to our safe housing. You depart the following day for your project. You are required to send flight details prior to your travel.

Where will I stay?

Our participants live in organised housing for example apartments. We ensure that you live in a community where, you get to spend time with likeminded people, and you have a house that you can call home for your duration in the program.

Do I have to speak Ugandan local languages?

No you do not. You will get a long extremely well with just English. However, it is helpful to learn some basic words and phrases of Luganda and this is covered during our training and orientation program.

How is the Ugandan food?

Foods served during your volunteer period include traditional Kenya Ugandan foods matooke, beans, ground nuts, posho, cassava, potatoes, vegetables etc. Ugandan meals also consist of other universal dishes such as beef, chicken, fish, rice and pasta. French fries, burgers, pizza etc. are available in restaurants and hotels. Breakfast usually consists of bread, eggs and tea. Fruits and vegetables are plenty in Uganda and feature frequently in menu preparations. Uganda-grown coffee and tea are common beverages

How can I communicate with home from abroad?

You can purchase Ugandan Sim cards for your mobile phones. Uganda has a wide range of telecommunication networks, with competitive data offerings. You can call back home via Skype, WhatsApp, Viber or any other social media platform.

Is it possible to stay longer?

Yes. We can normally increase time at a project, and accommodation, with a little notice. You must, however, be aware that a longer stay may necessitate a visa extension and extra cost.

What's not included in the price?

Flights, insurance and cost of getting your visa is not included in the price. Additionally, if you choose the Safari supplement, the cost of park entrance fee, meals to and from the safari and any overnight stays before or after the safari are NOT included in your trip.

How do I get a Visa?

Any person intending to enter into Uganda should do so only for lawful purposes and in accordance with national immigration laws, guidelines and formalities. Foreign nationals intending to enter Uganda for purposes of employment should comply with requirements for expatriate employment in Uganda.

  1. All visa prone nationalities must obtain Uganda visas to facilitate their entry into the country.
  2. Uganda visas may be obtained at Uganda missions abroad or on arrival at the ports of entry in the country.
