Medical electives are an opportunity for medical students and medical professionals to get hands on medical experience in the service delivery of Uganda’s hospitals and medical camps. Hospitals in Uganda have limited resources and, medical supplies and technology. The methods learnt will greatly improve the skills of the medical student/professional in service delivery once they return back home.

Our medical placement is available for a duration of 2 weeks to 6 weeks and an extension is allowed on request. We recommend 4 weeks, with 4 rotations to ensure that your experience is diverse and rewarding. Our medical camps are in both rural and urban settings and an elective will interact with a minimum of 20 cases during their time duration.

Are you a Nursing student or a Registered Nurse (RN)? Undertaking a nursing elective is an opportunity to diversify your skills as nurse, improve your interpersonal skills and process procedure. You will be involved in working in a busy environment with lots of different procedures that will require alertness and organization. Our hospitals have limited resources and human capital, so this will require that you have a volunteership spirit and a willingness to serve while exploring the diverse landscapes Uganda has to offer. We offer nursing electives in at least 9 sites across Uganda, offering you an opportunity to choose from a variety of locations.

Uganda has one of the highest fertility rates standing at 7.1 children per woman, which makes the obstetrics and Gynecology department one of the busiest departments in any medical facility. If you are a midwife, midwifery student, you will get an exciting unique medically rewarding experience that will last a life time, while improving your profession as a midwife giving you a competitive edge in the professional medical world.

Uganda has one of the lowest Surgeon-patient ratio, which is averagely 1:10 surgeon to patient ratio, which makes Uganda one of the best destinations for any surgeon who wants to get a diversified hands on experience in the various surgery cases especially in the Emergency and Trauma department. As a student or professional you will get guaranteed unique surgical procedures while working with the local surgical team in all aspects of patient care and operative information.

Are you a physician assistant? Participating in an elective in Africa through clinical rotation we will ensure that you acquire a set of diverse skills and competence needed in the PA profession. You will be supervised by the best local professionals while you gain hands-on experience and exposure in the departments of your interest. You will encounter advanced diseases, learn more about the management and treatment of tropical diseases.

Dental students and dental practitioners are able to get professionally customized electives to ensure they meet their targeted set skills while gaining exposure to diverse dental working environment. You will get hands on experience in dental care, gum treatment, restorative dentistry, removal of fractured roots, management of traumatic dental injuries, and placement of missing teeth among others. You will also have a chance to be part of our dental medical camps where we treat over 100 dental patients offering you a chance to explore the natural scenery while working in an open environment.

Paramedical students that have just finished their premed studies and are applying for medical school with the aim of enhancing personal statement while adding to their clinical procedures will gain professional experience from having electives with us. During your internship you will have daily supervision from the medical professionals while getting a diverse set of medical skills, exploring different diseases and tropical ailments that you may never find anywhere in a world, putting you a ladder higher than those aspiring to do the same profession in your country of residence. We ensure that we follow the medical guidelines of your country of residence in order to keep the experience during the elective relevant.
